Wairau Pass B&B has three guest bedrooms and provides accommodation and breakfast as part of the tariff as well as complimentary snacks and beverages – hot and cold, including delicious mulled wine served by a blazing fire in winter! Wairau Pass B&B is the vision of Eric MacDonald and Helen Campbell who wished to create not only a comfortable and handy “stop-off” point on one of the major travelling routes in the Top of the South Island, but a haven for those with a love of nature. Our homestay was completed in 2005 and is of earth brick (adobe) and macrocarpa construction to passive solar principles with the environment in mind. The B&B is on a small life-style block of one hectare. More than seventy hazelnut trees have been planted along with other nut and fruit trees and some exotics for firewood. The focus, however is on planting of native shrubs and trees to complement natural regeneration. Guests are very welcome to walk around the property and talk to Kahu, the goat and her woolly friend, Sheep, to feed the free-range bantam hens and collect the eggs.
